Over at the registrar (Namecheap), we want to buy a new domain.
From the Domains menu at the top, select Domain Name Search:You can then type in your chosen domain name (with TLD) and click the search button to see if it is available.
My chosen domain is available:
If the domain is available, you’ll see a check mark next to it at the top of the page. Click the shopping trolley button to add the domain to your cart.
View the cart and make sure your domain is correct (check the spelling).
At the checkout, make sure you enable Auto-Renew for the domain.
This will ensure that the registrar will automatically renew your domain name each year (until you cancel). Failure to renew a domain will result in your domain being released when the year is up, and someone else will be able to buy it.
When you buy your domain, you can buy it for longer than one year if you want to. If you have auto-renew enabled, I see no reason to buy for longer than one year.
You will also be offered WhoisGuard which is now permanently free on Namecheap. WhoisGuard protects your name, address, phone number and other contact details from the Whois.net database. Anyone can search this database online (at http://whois.net) to find contact details for the owner of a website. If you want the privacy provided by this, it’s a good option to include.
When you are happy with your selection, click the confirm order button to buy your domain.
If you got the WhoisGuard as well, there will be a link asking you to activate it on the domain. Just follow the instructions there.
OK; that’s the registrar done.
Let’s head over to the web hosting company.
Visit this page again, and click through to the recommended web host:
http://ezseonews.com/host
If my recommendation is still StableHost, check for a discount code I’ve included on that page which will give you a 40% discount on hosting (I cannot guarantee how long this will be available).
